A New Mom's Testimony | One Week into Motherhood
September 8, 2026
This beautiful reflection was sent to us to be shared, in hopes that it would encourage other new moms and moms-to-be walking through this same season.

A week ago, I became a mother.
If I'm honest, one of my biggest fears before giving birth wasn't labor itself—it was losing my quiet time with God. I was afraid that in the busyness of caring for a newborn, I wouldn't have space to simply be His daughter anymore. Especially as someone who's been relearning my faith, I worried that motherhood would pull me away from Him.
But God had different plans.
The days leading up to labor were overwhelming. There were endless things to prepare, so many uncertainties, and the past few months had put a strain on my marriage. I found myself wondering what having a baby would mean for us. Would we grow closer? Would we drift apart? I carried so much fear into those final weeks.
Then came the moment that completely unraveled me.
My doctor told me I wouldn't be able to have the natural birth I had planned for. I had spent months preparing, praying, and imagining how everything would happen. Suddenly, all of it had to change.
I cried so much before the Lord.
Looking back, I realize He was gently teaching me one last lesson before motherhood began: I can make plans, but I still have to surrender. Even until the very end, He was reminding me that His will is always better than my own.

I'm only one week into motherhood, but I already find myself overwhelmed—not by fear anymore, but by awe.
The moment I heard my daughter's first cry, I couldn't stop crying too. The only words that came out of my mouth were, "Thank You, Jesus. You are so good."
Over and over again.
That moment changed something in me.
This past week, I’ve already had little worship sessions together with my daughter. Yes, I'm tired. But underneath all the tiredness, my heart keeps singing the same truth:
God is good.
Every time I look at my daughter, I feel the weight of His grace and mercy. I don't deserve her. Yet God, in His kindness, entrusted her to me.
Now I understand why Scripture calls children a gift.

Somewhere along the journey, I had become so distracted by the challenges, the waiting, and the fears that I forgot this was exactly what I had prayed for over so many years—a God-centered family.
Ironically, after becoming a mother, I feel closer to God than ever before.
It's as if my heart has doubled in size—not only to love my daughter, but also to love people more deeply and worship God more fully.
Now I understand why the spiritual battles during pregnancy felt so intense. Looking back, I almost didn't make it through some of those seasons. But God's faithfulness carried me here. And God protected me and the baby in my womb from the enemy.
Motherhood has also awakened a fresh urgency in my prayer life.
There is so much at stake now. I'm reminded that building a strong family doesn't begin with perfect parenting—it begins in prayer. I want to rebuild that prayer tower for our home, to stand in the gap for my daughter, to pray over her life, and to believe that only God can truly cover and sustain our family. If we hope to break generational patterns and leave a legacy of faith, prayer has to be our foundation.

Another unexpected gift has been discovering that we were having a daughter.
At first, I was scared. I thought raising a girl would be harder. But God knew exactly what I needed.
Somehow, loving her has taught me to love myself more. Looking at her has helped me forgive parts of myself I didn't realize still needed healing. And watching my husband adore her has healed something in my heart too.
I know my journey as a mother is only beginning. I know there will be days when I fall short. There will be mistakes, tears, and moments when I question whether I'm enough.
But I want to remember this first week.
I want to remember this overwhelming gratitude.
I want to remember that before motherhood taught me how to be a mother, it reminded me how good my Father is.
What a privilege motherhood is and how great is the God who designed all of this.
